Chateau Robin is located in an extraordinarily beautiful landscape that has been cultivated for many centuries. The magnificent view we have of Castegens Castle is one of the most incredible in the Bordeaux Region. The estate belongs to the AOC “Castillon – Cotes de Bordeaux” in the village of Belves-de-Castillon, the center of the appellation. Chateau Robin’s vineyard is comprised of 8 different plots of vines, contained all on one continuous piece of land, situated on magnificent slopes oriented east, south-east. The size is 12.5 hectares (30 acres). The soil is clay and limestone. The density of planting is 5,000 vines per hectare, 62,500 vines.
Six plots are planted with merlot (60%) and two plots are planted with cabernet franc (30%) and cabernet sauvignon (10%). Each plot is harvested and processed separately, at the height of their maturity. The average age of the vines is forty years. Because of the lay of the land, all of our vineyard is hand-worked, from pruning to harvesting, with each vine being manually controlled eight to ten times each season. “The land we have is so incredible that yielding a powerful wine with a deep red colour is the natural result of the wonderful soil. Once the earth gives us these grapes, then the hard work we do is to focus on processing and aging in order to get finesse and elegance.”
