In 1840, Charles Aime Caille, a twenty year old second son of a family without means sails from La Rochelle, France to Renunion Island, a small French island in the Indian Ocean.  It was a one-way trip.

One hundred and sixty-three years later, the descendants of Charles Aime Caille had built a large business group in several countries, mainly concentrated in car distribution and supermarkets.

The great grandson of Charles Aime Caille, Jean Caille, married Laurence Minguet and they have three children: Jerome, Fabrice and Eva.  Jean worked in the family enterprises for most of his life before buying Chateau Robin where he and his son Jerome dedicate all their time to the vineyards of the Chateau.

history Château Robin

“We’ve learned with the vineyard everyday that the work changes season to season.  Things never remain the same.   Nature and climate dictate to us and we acclimate to change.  We become craftsmen of nature. It’s not easy work, but as hard as the work can be, our passion for it grows like our vines, replenished season after season.  If you are surrounded by professionals, you gather an appreciation and love of winemaking that makes every day more rewarding than the one before.”

The two people who are directly responsible for the vineyard, people who walk hundreds of kilometres each year, knowing and carrying for each vine as they would for their children, are Viviane and Bibi Bahassa.

The cellar master is Jean Baptiste Furet and his work never ends.  Rigorous and passionate, his attention to detail never wanes as he watches over the process following the harvest day to day, until the wine is ready to be bottled.  His goal is to make the best wine every year.

Youssouf Omar is indispensable to Chateau Robin.  In addition to preparing the orders and many other daily tasks, he is an excellent chef.

The secretary who manages piles of paperwork in administration and accounting is Sophie Prigent, who despite her young age is the senior employee of the estate.
